Like most of you, I’m in the “It’s a fresh new year and I’m gonna make this one the best one EVER” mindset. If everything goes as planned, I’m going to have more money than Dave Ramsey, I’ll look like Giselle, and I’ll have logged in more volunteer hours than Pope Francis before we put the Christmas tree up again. You might want to check in on me in about 3 weeks to see how that’s going…
One resolution that I keep seeing is to make more time for family and for the relationships that really matter. Because if there’s anything a marathon of Hallmark Christmas movies will teach you it’s that family and love are all that matter. And this might be completely uncool to say out loud, but… I agree with Hallmark.
We need to take care of our relationships. We need to be mindful of how we’re treating one another. We need to prioritize the people that matter. We need to cultivate marriages where we’re kind and forgiving and honest and gentle.
We need to pay attention to the course our relationships are on. We cannot have amazing friendships, marriages, and families by putting them on autopilot and hoping that we do right by them. We must be intentional.
I want to help you be intentional.
Each month, I’m choosing a word for us to meditate on in our marriages. Each Friday, I’m sending out a worksheet with questions to help you and your spouse dig into that word and process it together. It will be a simple tool to use on date nights or for conversation starters as you drift to sleep. It isn’t therapy, and it’s only as intense as you want it to be. Mostly, it’s designed to help you keep both hands on the wheel of your relationship.
In the spirit of January, let’s Renew our marriages.
First, we must Reflect. 2013 might have been a rough year for some of you, and maybe you need to process what you’ve been through and where you’ve gone on this marriage journey. So this week we’re taking a moment to reflect. To huddle together and reassess. Let’s look at the good, the bad, and the beautiful (because no matter how bad it got, let’s make a point to find the beautiful).

I’m looking forward to going on this journey with you. If you want to make sure you don’t miss the following weeks in January (Forgive, Celebrate, Dream, Renew), make sure you follow us on Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram.
